We will not because of hardship allow our citizens to be trading under high tension power line – Delta Govt

In his drive to keep Asaba the State capital safe, clean and in accordance with it’s More mantra, the Delta State Taskforce on Environment has dislodged the illegal occupants of the Cenotaph, dismantled the shanties and evacuated street traders under the high tension power lines, for security reasons and who’s activities have defaced the aesthetic views around the Asaba Specialist Hospital and blocked the drainage system amongst other environmental hazards, despite several months of sensitizations and warnings on the need to seize their operations.

The State Taskforce Chairman on Environment, Chief Godpower Asiuwhu, who led his team and other critical stakeholders, including the office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification, said their actions became necessary, despite months of appeal for them to do the needful and comply with the directive to relocate.

Some of the illegal occupants of the places dislodged said although government meant well but it was not easy getting another location, due to the present economic reality and appealed to the government to reconsider them.

The operation zero tolerance to illegal structures, street trading and the removal of vehicles causing obstruction and other activities that are harmful to the environment continues within the capital city and other major parts of the state.
